Used in the manufacture of lakes. Used as a mordant for printing and dyeing of fabrics, as a catalyst for inorganic and organic chlorination reactions. Used to coat steel to make it bronze. It is a raw material for the manufacture of barium salts. Also used in medicine, as a preservative.
